Maid to be Free

Recently I met Jenny, a German girl who works as au pair in the United States.. She’s only 23 yet traveled Denmark, England, France, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Turkey, United States already! And now, she just completed her tour in South East Asia.

For those who wants to know what au pair is.. they work at homes to take care of kids otherwise known as a nanny although au pair has a non-degrading concept. For more info, please see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Au_pair

Now back to my reality in Asia and the Middle East.. where nannies are treated as modern day slaves and placed at the bottom of the social hierarchy.. For me, au pairs from the West and Asian nannies does the same thing but how come they are treated differently?
